FILTREC Progress

FILTREC, an Italian company that manufactures industrial filters, purchased the former Taurus Tools property south of Muncie and is setting up its North American headquarters in Delaware County, Indiana. With the help of the East Central Indiana Regional Planning District (ECIRPD), the Delaware County commissioners, and the Delaware County Economic & Municipal Affairs, the company was able to get a tour of the county and establish connections in order to grow their already expanding business. The facility is expected to start operations by the end of June 2022.

FILTREC provides industrial and hydraulic filters to several types of industries such as manufacturing, excavating, cranes, mining, and agriculture. The company plans to invest more than $1 million in the new headquarters and plant as well as increase the number of employees from 9 to 12-30 by the end of 2022.

Before setting up its North American headquarters, the company was invited to the area by county officials for a two-day visit back in 2017. Afterward, the company decided to start storing filters in an available space in Daleville, Indiana. This was a convenient solution for distribution purposes as many of FILTREC’s customers reside in midwestern states. Executive Director of the ECIRPD, Bill Walters, later met with FILTREC executives in Italy such as the Director of Operations, Mauro Milani, and has been working with them and others since to handle all aspects of the international move and to establish operations in East Central Indiana.

According to Walters, ECIRPD is interested in making Delaware County a hub for Italian companies. Walters noted what it was like watching the community struggle after the closing of several plants over the past two decades. “We don’t sell land, we sell communities,” said Walters, “We want companies that are here to stay.”
